Fuoco e Fiamme

Ed ecco la seconda tavola di Matteo (l'altro :)) colorata. Devo dire la verità, è stata una dura prova. Riuscire ad evidenziare i personaggi ed i piani all'interno della capanna in fiamme non è stato facile. Beh, questo è il risultato.

It's been challenging to get the different characters and the depth of the burning hut.

In vista di Mantova ed altre fiere sto colorando qualche nuova paginetta.
L'idea iniziale era quella di cercare tavole a linea chiara in modo da "fare l'occhiolino" anche ad editori che collaborano con Francia, Belgio e co. Poi però Matteo Scalera mi ha dato l'ok per colorare le sue e quindi... (che figata).
Questo il primo lavoro.

I'm coloring some other pages while waiting for Mantova and other shows to come.

At first I had in mind to look for some ligne claire (clear line) pages to wink at publishers with contacts in France and Belgium and other countries which use this technique, but then Matteo Scalera gave me the OK for coloring his works, so... How cool is that, btw?

Segnalo, che non fa mai male, due letture utili per chi sta pensando di intraprendere la carriera di libero professionista (l'uno) e magari di libero professionista e fumettaro (l'altro).

Il primo, nonchè più recente è "L'IVA Funesta" di Fulvio Romanin (scoperto leggendo il blog di Emanuele Tenderini)
18 capitoletti compongono questo piccolo manuale che tratta di partita iva, rapporto con i clienti, gestione del lavoro ecc e tutti quegli aspetti che un libero professionista dovrebbe conoscere e valutare.
Ah, forse avrei dovuto dirlo subito ma... è scaricabile gratuitamente da questo link.

Il secondo, scoperto poco dopo LuccaComics2011, è "Lezioni spirituali per giovani fumettari" di Emiliano Mammucari.
Chiariamo subito: il termine "fumettaro" è veramente orrendo.
Precisato questo, posso dire il libro sia utile e scorrevole. Emiliano illustra i meccanismi che regolano i vari mercati del fumetto, dà suggerimenti sul come proporsi e come "affrontare" gli editori. Si concentra molto sui progetti diciamo così "completi", ma nelle pagine si trovano anche informazioni utili alle varie figure (sceneggiatore, disegnatore, inchiostratore, colorista e co...), al quale è riservato anche un breve capitolo che ne identifica le competenze e le richieste sul mercato (in linea di massima, ovviamente).

Da leggere quindi. Entrambi.

 

Must Haves 

I recommend - it never hurts - two books for those of you who want to start a career as freelancers and both as freelancer and comic artist.

The first, which is also the most recent, is L'IVA Funesta (it'd be The Fatal VAT in English ), which I found in Emanuele Tenderini's blog. It is a 18-little-chapters handbook about VAT numbers, the relationship with the clients and all those aspects which a freelancer should know and keep in mind.

The second is Lezioni spirituali per giovani fumettari (Spiritual Lessons for Young Comic Artists) by Emiliano Mammuccari.

The word fumettari (singular fumettaro) is an Italian slang word which stands for comic artist - I couldn't find a proper word to translate it in English. Anyways. I hate this word but I must say that the book is very useful and easy-to-read.

Emiliano shows the mechanisms of the comic markets and gives some advice on how to put yourself up for becoming a comic artist and how to “face” the publishers. He focuses a lot on the projects I would call “complete”, but in his book you can find useful information about other type of activities (scriptwriting, illustrating, ink rolling, coloring and so on) with a short chapter describing their competence and the market demand (broadly speaking, of course).

Two books you must read.
